But if your body is lacking something you may not be reaping all the benefits.
Β A lack of iron can provoke an allergy to oatmeal and sesame. Is your baby colicky after eating? Lots of baby food has oatmeal in it and could be in response to being iron deficient or difficulty processing B vitamins.
Getting your iron in balance can be a tough nut to crack. Plant sources of iron arenβt always as usable by the body, vitamin C along with iron helps with this, iron from animal sources are harder on digestion but your body uses the iron better.... so itβs a bit of a catch 22. And then how do you get your iron to go into ferritin (storage) rather than just raise the iron serum? Itβs a balancing act and each person is different. Personally, this is one of my continual struggles since I donβt eat much meat and have MTHFR... taking iron and having my body use it without it accumulating. Years ago my ferritin was the lowest I have still to this day ever seen. It was an 8.
Iron isnβt something that you wouldnβt want to take without routinely checking it to make sure itβs not building up in your system. Itβs also not something you would want to know if itβs low because low levels of iron can leave you feeling depressed, anxiety, palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigued and sluggish. itβs also very important during pregnancy for baby development.
If your current iron regimen isnβt working for you, Let me know and Iβll share with you what has worked for my iron levels.
If you donβt know your iron levels and would like to find out let me know that youβre interested in the comprehensive lab work. Let me know if you're interested in learning more.
Be well.
