    Just a Curse Word? Nope!

What is MTHFR? A swear word? Kind of but not really. I think of it as the mother f*!#$@ gene because that's what most people feel, and sometimes even say, when they find out they have it. In this post you will learn what the MTHFR gene is, it's function, signs of a mutation on this gene, how to test for it, and natural treatments to manage this mutation. MTHFR GENE: The human body is made up of trillions of cells. Inside each cell is our DNA that provides instructions for how

Let Food Be Thy Medicine - Hippocrates

Many people are aware of the health benefits of certain foods but feel it's overwhelming to take it all in. With that, I encourage clients to incorporate foods they enjoy into their already developed routine. You can do this by finding healthy alternatives to almost anything! Let's start by looking at some seasonally inspired ingredients for fall used in My Goodness! Kombucha and look at how they benefit your health. When looking for quality Kombucha in your health food store

3 Simple Steps to Boost Your Immune System

It's that time of year, stores are getting ready and decorating for fall-season. I'm not referring to the typical fall decorations, I'm referring to the overwhelming amount of flu season reminders, reminding everyone to get their shots! Yet the simplest and safest bet against the flu - or any one of a number of immune system assaults we face this time of year - is to fortify your immune system. Best of all... No needles are involved! A healthy immune system is our best defens

Eat Fresh, Eat Local, Eat With the Season

This Wednesday, July 18th I'll be at my first farmer's market! I'll be selling My Goodness! organic Kombucha ... made fresh, made locally, and using fruit that's in season. The herbs are grown in my backyard, the Kombucha brews in my kitchen, and the honey is MN grown. On occasion I sweeten the Kombucha with maple syrup and that's 100% pure organic maple syrup (that's the only ingredient listed on the bottle). Why does it matter if our food is fresh and local? Food ripens on

My Goodness! How Do I Know If It's Good For Me?

I'm guessing by now you've heard about Kombucha. But do you know the health benefits of this wonderful probiotic elixer? How about the difference between store bought Kombucha and housemade Kombucha? Read on to get some of your questions answered. (or to be enlightened) As far as health benefits, here is an excerpt from a previous blog: I discovered Kombucha is most known for it's positive effects on digestion. Kombucha is made using a SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and

A Few Good Recipes ... and Why They're Good For You!

Now that we all have our grills out and our patio furniture in place it's time to start planning our summer get togethers! You can be the one to say "I'll bring that" for desserts. And if you're bringing it ... you know you'll have a healthy option. A few that I've experimented with (made up!) lately are keylime bars, a fruit dip, and frozen yogurt. However, I really need to start measuring and writing things down ... I usually just make things up, but they're really simple.

    Here Comes the Sun...

But is it soon enough for you? Are the winters long, gray, and taxing on your emotional health? Have you considered St. John's Wort? St John's wort is a pretty little shrub with cheery yellow flowers that have medicinal properties and is especially beneficial to those affected by the sun (or lack of!). It has become pretty common knowledge that St John's wort is a good, safe alternative to antidepressants but did you know that the form you take it in will have an effect on it

    Spring is in the air

Although it is snowing, almost mid-April, in MN ... I am starting my spring Kombucha brew! I bought hibiscus tea, waited out the first ferment, added mango and am awaiting the springtime/summer concoction reminding me of papaya juice. Many of you may not know but I brew Kombucha on a regular basis and alternate the flavors with the season. Not only is brewing Kombucha a fun science experiment but it is a healthy alternative to many beverages with many health benefits. To get
